In view of the rapid spike in Covid-19 positive cases in Ukhrul district, the Village Authority of Phungcham village in Chingai subdivision has announced imposition of 10 day- voluntary -lockdown in the village with effect from 8 October.
In a public notice, the village authority informed that the voluntary move is being initiated as a preventive measure to contain the spread of the virus as unanimously resolved by the villagers in a public meeting on 5 October last.
It informed that the self-imposed lockdown will be effective from 8 October till 17 October, while adding that the locals of the village were allowed to procure and stock up essential commodities from the town during the past three days.
“During the lockdown, the locals are to voluntarily confine themselves in their respective homes to ensure complete lockdown, and no outsiders would be allowed entry into the village,” it said, warning that anyone found violating the order would be slapped with a penalty of Rs. 5000.
The village authority then disclosed that in cases of medical emergency, or academic examinations, the public are to contact the authority concerned.
